Morwenna

Definition

This comes from the Welsh word morwyn ("a maiden"). Morwena is a variant spelling, and there are the names Morwyn and Morwen as variants. Morfydd or Morfudd, the name given to his beloved by the great medieval Welsh poet Davydd ap Gwilym, probably comes from the same root. It was the name of a sixth-century princess, daughter of Urien Rheged and sister to the heroic Owain (see Ewan). It was a popular Welsh name throughout the Middle Ages.
